Terrell Anthony Edwards, 31, was arrested on Sunday and charged following an investigation into the incident, which resulted in nearby Good Samaritans securing the child and alerting the authorities.
The incident was reported shortly before 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 25, on Graham Park Road near Purvis Drive in Triangle, when the boy was seen walking in the roadway without supervision.
They were able to secure the kid safely and called the Prince William County Police Department, though initial attempts to locate his home were unsuccessful.
While investigating, police say that Edwards contacted the agency to report that his child was missing, and it was then determined that he was unaware he had even left the residence.
According to the department, the child was uninjured and "released to the custody of known parties."
The Triangle resident was arrested charged with felony child neglect. His court date is pending and bond information was unavailable on Monday afternoon.
